Story submission occurs in two phases:

• Send an e-mail to staff @novaminds.net with the subject line "Requesting Permission to Submit a Story". The body of the e-mail should contain your teaser (similar to what you would find on the back of a book cover) your full name, and e-mail address. Tell us how many pages are in it.
• If we are interested, we will then send you an e-mail containing further instructions for sending the file to us, including an authorization form you will need to sign and e-mail or fax back to us prior to sending us the file. Do not send any e-mails containing story files to staff@Novaminds.net as it will be discarded.

Art Submission occurs in two phases:

• We will then send you an e-mail containing further instructions, including an agreement you will need to sign and e-mail or fax back to us prior to submission. Do not send any e-mails containing artwork to staff@Novaminds.net as it will be discarded.
• If we like it, we will send you another e-mail requesting the dimensions and file size maximums we need in order to publish you in our gallery.
• If we don't like it, we will tell you why and offer suggestions for improving it. You can then try it again. We are NOT here to bash your work.
• When you submit your work (of any kind) you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions below. Essentially this means you own the work and have given Novaminds.net explicit permission to make it available to visitors for viewing and/or downloading.

Terms and conditions

1. Submitted Stories - By submitting your stories to Novaminds.net (the website) you are agreeing that we may post chapters from the story on our website as PDF files. The PDF files may be created from documents in other formats Novaminds.net has agreed to accept. Any submission is your explicit agreement that the story is your own original work, or you have legal permission to submit such work to us. You also agree to be bound by the copyright laws of the United States of America. You are also agreeing that we may use the story within our website or within external advertisement for the purposes of promoting and marketing the website, and that under some circumstances full attribution may not always be possible. Novaminds.net agrees to attempt author contact prior to such use.
2. Submitted Artwork - By submitting artwork to the website you are agreeing that we may post it in our gallery and may make it available for download to others. You are also agreeing that we may use the artwork within our website or within external advertisement for the purposes of promoting and marketing the website, and that under some circumstances full attribution may not always be possible. Novaminds.net agrees to attempt artist contact prior to such use.
3. Limitation of Liability - Novaminds.net is not responsible for verifying the authenticity of authorship, and will cooperate fully to provide full disclosure in the event that plagiarism or other fraud related to submitted work is claimed and / or enforced by a legal entity of the United States of America. Only the submitting author, artist, or legal representative may request that work be removed from Novaminds.net. This includes those serving notice to Novaminds.net through legal channels to remove such material.
4. Protected Work - All work submitted to Novaminds.net by Citizens of the United States of America is considered protected work under United States Copyright Law, and the sole property of the submitter. Novaminds.net claims no ownership or right to use materials outside of that consent explicitly granted above. Submitted work from citizens of other countries will be treated in the same manner as those submitted by American Citizens, but should know that the actual legal protections granted are from those of their own countries, not from those of the United States of America.
5. No Right to Have Material Posted - Novaminds.net does not grant the right or expectation by any author or artist that any work or revision will be accepted and posted to the website. The website may remove any posted material at any time at its sole discretion without explanation or prior notice to its members, authors, or artists.
6. Indemnity and Limitations of Liability - You agree that Novaminds.net has no control over how those whom download posted materials use those materials. There for, Novaminds.net is to be held harmless for any damage to reputation, copyright infringement, or other violations which may be perpetrated by those whom download files from the site. You agree to hold the website harmless for any misattribution, misleading information, or any damage whatsoever to name and reputation which may occur through accidental acts by staff including but not limited to posting incorrect story revisions, creating incorrect author links to stories, or other acts done through Novaminds.net either on the website itself or other websites that have a relationship with Novaminds.net. This extends to interviews with Novaminds.net staff distributed through any media.

Pros and Cons of Novaminds.net
As an unsigned author it's great to have a free place to get your creative works exposed to a large and appreciative audience. Novaminds might be a first step toward testing the waters for you and helping you become an accomplished writer. That's what we're all about. Where you need to be cautious is in deciding to let an ENTIRE story or book become downloadable for free from Novaminds. Providing the full manuscript online is the equivalent of self-publishing your book, and once you do this your chance of an agent working with you to pitch that particular story to a publisher decreases. At least that's the way the industry stands at the moment. However, should an agent decide to represent you anyway we would need to pull the story from our site because the agent would, understandably, not want to continue offering for free that which is about to be pitched to a publisher. And this we would do enthusiastically, with loud cheers and congratulations to you! The agent would usually require more re-writng anyway so that by the time your book hits the stores, it will have become even more amazing than it was when you honored us with it on Novaminds.net.

But Novaminds can be a great place to get your work in front of readers and agents in the first place, and have fun doing it while contributing to the evolution of the science fiction literary form. It's also a great way to network with writers who share a common passion, and who knows, maybe a collaborative spark or two will fly!
